After reaching a remarkable degree of maturity, exclusive perhaps to only a few minimal techno labels labels world-wide, it can be clearly seen that the central aim of Background Records has always been, and will always be, to bring together minimal, ultra-raw, unique and sometimes futuristic music from different people, with different angles, and different and very personal individual backgrounds - each character bringing their own perspective on the minimal side of Techno.

Goosehound is a New York based label operated by CEDE and Sean Smith. The two met through their involvement with Microcosm Music - Sean is half of the duo Socks & Sandals and CEDE provides artwork for the label's Macrofun series.

Matt du Jardin and Yossi ämoyal are two individuals with a very similar take on music, art and life in general. Although both hail from separate cultures, separate ways of life and separate musical backgrounds, they share a true Ying Yang partnership with a united vision of new wave music that they wish to share with the world. We are always doing away with musical boundaries and always pushing for new sounds!

Modern electronic music
That’s pretty much what Milnor is all about. Started as a clubbing project back in 1998, it soon moved to be closely linked to the Global Village Club in mid-German Dessau. There, Milnor activities spread on the fields of booking, graphic artwork and club decoration. In 2002, the idea of an own record imprint arose and was kept till its realization in March 2003 with Treplec’s founding of Milnormodern Records (MMR).

Lerato Khathi (Lakuti) and Alan Abrahams (Portable) grew up at opposite parts, of south africa. Communities that had a lot in common. Poverty and deprivation, and a strong love of music, but because of the warped racial laws of the time. It meant these communities were sometimes in conflict even though they were both under the big thumb of the apartheid regime. Alan and Lerato crossed paths in a suburb of Johannesburg called Yeoville in 1991.

Microcosm Music is based in New York City and was established in early 2004. It was the brainchild of Jakob Haglof, who runs Aesthetic Parcel design, and Ezekiel Honig, who acts as the label manager and A&R.
Microcosm is more concerned with the feel of the music than genre per se, with specific variations of minimal and quirky techno, textural ambience, and electro-acoustic compositions.
