A "pocket pet" is a small animal kept as a companion. Pocket can also mean the solid feel of a good drummer. Pet can also mean a favorite person, or used as a verb, can mean 'to stroke or fondle.' Given the sound of the music, the name is no mistake.

David Last and Segeke met in Japan in 2005, and began collaborating on dancefloor tracks via email (David lives in New York City, Segeke in Osaka). Segeke had been releasing solo electronic music, as well as playing guitar and programming electronics with famed Japanese indie band "One Thousand Birds." David had been touring in support of his downtempo releases on The Agriculture label, making music videos for electronic music, and preparing dancefloor tracks for labels in the US and Europe.

Pocket Pet's music is aimed squarely at the dancefloor, while creating a unique, sometimes complex, and often bizarre sonic world. On "WeSendIt EP," Segeke's influence can be heard in the subtly housy flavor and immaculate sound design of "With You," and David's influence can be felt in the syncopated percussion and strange voice sounds of "Shaky Hands." Put together, their sounds rock bells. They continue to produce tracks at breakneck speed, together and in their own solo projects.
