mt010-35px.jpgVarious Artists - Mindtours 10 (12")
label . Mindtours
Release date . March, 2006

Mindtours is a non-profit collective of musicians and artists based in Wales, also gaining reputation for hosting quality events in the south-west of Great Britain. Devoting themself to the "deep techno category" Mindtours already released a bunch of 12"s since 2000. The 1st release for 2006 not only melts four unique musical approaches it also delivers a highly diverse musical blend ranging from gently moving midtempo grooves up to infectious, more dancefloor oriented tracks.

Tom ellis, already known for releases on Trimsound and Morris Audio Citysport enchants with a lightweight and funked up opening track that sounds deeply convincing and also whets the appetite for his forthcoming release on Paris based Logisitc Records. „Stock Up On Antibiotics“ by Ducket slows down things a bit while creating a lovely and charming downtempo anthem full of wamth and quiet melancholy.
On the flipside Steevio (One of the heads behind Mindtours) follows Tom Ellis in similar style and direction, melting subtle, yet infectious rythm patterns full of unexpected shifts and twists with jazzy instrumental backdrops. Katsuya Urushizaki - who made his debut on „Autumnal“ - 2nd release on Mindtours' netlabel division - delights with a deep and mesmerizing closing track that grows into a dense structure of nicely layered grooves and captivating atmospheres. Overall, a refreshingly varied and recommendable 12".

nd-3 is my favorite one.
It's really amazing.

Katsuya's track is the one for me; musical structure, depth, warmth, clarity and funk! Nice.

Seems that Katsuya has done his preparations. =)
Also nice to see that the comment field already burst at the seams - gives me pleasure. -- "keep on keeping on!" --

Hey Katsuya!

Not bad at all, even though you know minimal tek is not my thing really... Very clicky, and crisp, but the preview is too short!

An excellent mix of stuff - nice to find a bit of eclecticism. I'm particularly enjoying Ducket and Kastuya Urushizaki's tracks, and it's also interesting to find out about the non-profit side of things. A warm feeling all round...

Hi Mindguys, your work are sincerely a step forward to the new music market generation, and netlabels are a good showcase for every artist, of course.
I would like to express my preference for the side b2: Katsuya Urushizaki - nd-3 track i think is an adult job for an artist that have much to say....
Anyway the whole ep is very interesting and is an great input for any minimal sound lover.
Keep on your tours!

hmm, I think it's interesting that nd-3 made it from netlabel to real vinyl ... great track it is :)
And for the comments about shrinking vinyl market ... I think that especially netaudio has pushed some poeple into the record shops after all ... see contexterrior and stuff ...

If I'm right the last post by Anonymous comes from Lerato (Süd Electronic). seems you messed up your cookies baby =)

A lot of food for further thoughts and a few interesting viewpoints are stated below and I'm happy to see that people recognize and appreciate the idea behind this project.

I'm sure we 'll push things forward for a lot of small but growing projects and labels in 2006.

well done to steevio , suzy and the rest of the mindtours crew!
steevio is one of the most passionate people i have had the pleasure to meet . this comes through time and time again in the kind of deep music this label puts out .

now this whole vinyl vs mp3's , is the one that is constantly popping up these days . yes vinyl is increasingly becoming difficult to sell these days , but then again vinyl has been more of a specialist thing for the last 2 decades ....
i grew up surrounded by my gran dad's jazz collection , and yes i do get nostalgic about vinyl . at the same time though i am quite excited by the endless potential that will come with the digital market .

what has let vinyl down and many struggling record labels has been the traditional way of distributing this music . i am sure there is a lot more people willing to buy a lot more of the interesting material on small labels , but what usually happens is that distributors tend to focus their attention to the big sellers to the disadvantage of the small label and progress in terms of the quality of music ..
the same could possibly happen with digital distribution as the majors hoe in on this market . i think really the key is with the labels starting to take a keener interest on the business side of things , and totally revolutionising how they spread their music & the easiest way of doing this is digitally .
on a more intersting note , though , what might finally kill vinyl as we know it , might possibly be the fact that the materials used to make it are totally unfriendly to the environment ! :)

keep on keeping on ! :

Thanks for the comments people, and some interesting points about the non-profit making issue.
We simply do not believe that being motivated by making profit is why we are involved in music. We provide a platform for musicians to have their music heard with the label and the events we organise, but dont confuse not making a profit with not making a sustainable living.
We hope all our artists can eventually survive from making music, and we help by giving them access to a larger network of like-minded souls.
On that note i would like to thank Christian Meinke for helping us expand that network by taking us under his wing.

its all about giving support and showing an interest in the music and artists !
the damned analogue technology vs the anarchic digital technology question ???
well basically we need to take a break from our computers, turn the damn things off ! go to the record shop, even if you dont want to buy vinyl or cd's. the interaction is good for you, us, and the music !

with regards to the mindtours 10 release, im not being biased but ducketts track wins ! (not that its a competition by any means)
finaly, i will be able to hold this track in my hands, touch it, read and feel this track and look at the groove that this track has ! same goes for the rest of the tracks on this release too ! respect to mindtours !

i may be verging on the insane, but i admit it, i am mad for the real shit !

Hey Suade, at 1st thanks for your feedback on the release and your statement.

Seems you missed the following line at the Mindtours website: "... The label has since evolved to cover much wider territory with the introduction of new artists, and is now a thriving non-profit making collective of musicians and artists."

quote: "... because of the ever shrinking vinyl market?"

For sure this point could kick off a lively discussion and I would love to start with a short personal statement.

For me the significance of vinyl could'nt be denied, even if mp3 download stores spring up increasingly and future generations possibly never will become acquainted with the quality differences between a highq mp3 or lossless encoded file and a 12" of merchantable quality.
While keeping in mind the musical context this website and project promotes and which is closely connected to a growing international community and (club)scene - it's safe to assume that Vinyl 'll also endure the next decade as the voice and soul of a groundbreaking scene far away from sales figures and prevalent doom-mongering.

quote: "Aren't all small labels producing 12"s non-profit by default ...?"

That's truly the crux of the matter, but I'm happy to see that there are enough passionate people and projects out there pushing things further with releasesing outstanding and unique approaches to minimal electronic music.
However, I think that quality sales and a well curated and promoted label is a sound basis for long-term strategies.
Of course the term "non-profit" could either be seen as a negative state or result but also could declare somebody's belief in working passionately on a project without constraints caused by a profit-oriented background. I know this may sound kind of far from reality, but for me it's a question of setting own priorities.

Just my two cents and hopefully there are enough congenial spirits who 'll complete what was said.

Happy 10th Release to Mindtours.

Consistent quality over the years is upheld by this release. Good to see another artist name added to the Mindtours roster. As is usual on the Mindtours multi-artist releases I find myself liking the Steevio cut best once I've heard all the tracks a few times.

I'd love to know which clubs to go to for this type of sound - up here in the North East of England there just isn't anything this sophisticated happening on the dancefloors. Any ideas people? Anywhere in the world?

Interesting to see Mindtours described as non-profit here - there's nothing about that that I could see on the 'about' page on the Mindtours website. Aren't all small labels producing 12"s non-profit by default nowadays because of the ever shrinking vinyl market?

Keep up the good work!

go on steeeeevio !!!
i have nothing to say, but wot the hell, i am saying it, ''its an experiance to be a friend !''
