russell-35px.jpgSebastian Russell
location . London, UK
...

Sebastian’s unique style is a product of a lifelong love of music that has journeyed through rock, jazz, funk and classical scores. His life has been divided between England and France and in each different country he has adopted something of their musical culture allowing him to move between various forms and styles without effort.

img-feature-russell.jpg

Sebs entry into the electronic sphere began in 2003 with an invitation to produce music for a dance performance piece, obviously the medium made an impact but without a long history of making electronic music he was free to approach the medium from an objective position. Sebs work has a fresh feel and an inherently uncluttered style. Aoki Takamasa is Sebs electronic reference point and they share a love of non-traditional sound sources and beautiful sonic landscapes.

Other influences include Radiq, Mathew Dear and Prefuse 73, at first these names seem to be disparate but they are equally minimalist in execution. His quirky but instantly groovy style has evolved over the past few years thanks to an incredible work ethic, Seb arrived in London in mid 2004 with the intention of writing a new tune every day and keeping the best one at the end of the week. Amazingly he did this and has produced a large body of work. Playing at underground techno parties in London has allowed Seb to get an instant reaction to his work from the dancefloor where it matters most.

Imminent releases on Milnormodern, Multivitamins and Telegraph Records see Sebastian move onto the next stage in his musical evolution. However, the only constant that Sebastian will maintain is change and in the future you can expect a live show incorporating more than just a laptop but traditional musicians and vocalists. The next time you hear his work he is sure to have added or even taken something away.

bises
ta soeur!
