One Token Left - Before We Met (12")
label . sushitech
release date . october 15, 2005
One Token Left is the new exclusive project by Pheek (Minus/Contexterrior) for the new Sushitech imprint from Yossi Amoyal (Safari Electronique) based in London, UK. With "Before We Met" the Canadian producer contributes an expansive and exciting mixture ranging from mainly abstract minimal cuts to more dancefloor-oriented structures - while constructing a multi-layered yet minimalistic statement that at first tries to confuse the senses and at second glance delivers a refreshingly varied portrait of an unique approach to minimal techno. Diverse and quirky - in the truest sense of the word.

While title track "Before We Met" is exploring a slightly more dancefloor feel and shows once again Pheek's skill at crafting nine minutes of sheer intensity from a small list of ingredients, the second track on the a-side feels more like a rough, multi-faced beast - creating an incendiary mix of robust depth that won't easily be followed.
The "After we met" Remix of Oliver Hacke continues on the flipside with a more emotive touch - forming a deep minimal piece with a classic vibe - subtly shifting and resulting in a sound that is dense, angular and hypnotic. The closing track "Coffee Shop" follows "Back At Square One" in a similar mood and feel - constantly twisting and turning in unexpected ways. -- Recommended! --
