klf 014 - FrivolousFrivolous - Impermeable Disguise (12")
label . karloff recordings
release date . july 5, 2005

After „kevork motion“ on Background Recordings the „impermeable disguise“ 12“ is the second amazing release by Vancouver’s Daniel Gardner aka Frivolous for summermonth July. And exactly that is how this brilliant ep sounds like - lively, almost playful minimal house tracks with a slightly ironic touch.

„Cj's Turnin' world“ is opening the 4tracker with unmistakeable clarity - combining frisking basses and simmering sythns and brasses with a charming background voice garnished with slightly vocalized vocal cuts. „Slinky Internationalist“ follows on the a-side with a soulful almost jazzlike tendency - melting vibrant rhythms with surprising calssical themes and instrumental parts. On the flipside the Teracotta mix of „Room No. 402“ delights with cut-up funk playfulness - mixing 4/4 structures with shuffling percussive effects and crouching basslines and underlines once again Daniel’s sensitive and romantekly influenced production style. „Doppelgaenger“ follows with a similar deep and exhausted bassline accompanied with stylish and refined beats and tunes, turning the closing track into an exciting and tickling flow of minimal house grooves.
