Antiguo Autómata Mexicano - Microhate (2x12" & CD)
label . background records
release date . february 2005
Antiguo Autómata Mexicano, hailing from Mexico, debuts with his first full-length album released on Background. Unlike his Mexican counterpart Murkof, who is heavily influenced by classical composer Eric Sati. Unlike Background artist Portable, who openly and richly embraces his African roots, Angel ventures out to produce a unique sound all of his own, with no reference to his Mexican upbringing.

On his first release 'Microhate', he creates a "listening" dance album, deeply-textured, with sounds that morph to produce an orchestral-sounding rhythm which retains the traditional 4-4 structure. It could easily be described as charming, but never sentimental. It has an obvious Detroit influence throughout, embellished with modern quirks, underwater gurgles and crisp, sci-fi elements filtering through.
The general impression that this release makes on the listener is one of a feeling of warmth. This piece of work defines the meaning of futuristic, relaying itself as time machine, awakening our senses and reminding of our existence in the new millenium.
